Wealth Tracker Helps Oregon
State University Find Major Gift Prospects
When the Oregon State
University Foundation undertook a major gift discovery program as
part of its six-year, $625 million fundraising campaign, Wealth
Tracker was one of the first tools that it turned to. Since the
launch of the foundation's discovery program in October 2008, Wealth
Tracker's powerful web-crawling capability has doubled the number of
prospects identified among OSU alumni and friends at the senior
executive level.
"Wealth Tracker has allowed us to be much more nimble about being at
the right place at the right time," says Mark Koenig, Director of
Prospect Research at Oregon State University. "Your product continues to
help us identify the high-end prospects and move them up." Koenig says
that, thanks in part to Wealth Tracker, just over 10% of the initial
discovery pool has been qualified by direct contact and half of that
group has been successfully moved to a major-gift relationship.
Wealth Tracker finds new prospects for OSU by searching the web daily
for wealth events such as stock transactions, company mergers and
acquisitions, new appointments, venture financing, and more. According
to John Wright, HEP's Business Development Director, 95% of the data
that Wealth Tracker finds is hard-to-locate information about private
companies that ordinary searching usually misses.
Unlike other match technologies that only identify prospects on a
quarterly or yearly basis, Wealth Tracker's exclusive Rapid Match
technology runs prospect lists daily and sends up-to-the-minute
information to clients every morning, which Koenig then sends to
development officers at each of the university's schools for follow-up.
"They are very pleased with the flow of prospects," says Koenig. "In
fact, they're swapmed right now. That's one of the reasons I like Wealth
Tracker; we're constantly bubbling up new names, so it keeps things
fresh."

Wealth Tracker Now
Incorporates NOZA Data
HEP Development is pleased to announce that Wealth Tracker now
incorporates data from NOZA -- the world's largest searchable database of
charitable donations -- thanks to DonorTrends, the exclusive licensor of NOZA data for
screening. For Wealth Tracker users, this means access to information
about your prospects' gifts to organizations with similar missions,
their giving levels that may be higher than what you are receiving now,
and the depth and breadth of their giving.
"NOZA is constantly mining data on the web, so there are billions of
dollars worth of 2009 gifts to go with all of the historical data," says
David Lawson, President of Screening & Analytics at DonorTrends and
the founder of Prospect Information Network (P!N). "NOZA even has
donations that are no longer on the web. That is because the honor roll
is taken down by the organization so when you do a Google Search you
will not find it." All of NOZA's information comes from publicly
available Web sources, including annual reports, donor lists, and honor
rolls.
Your nonprofit can take advantage of this powerful resource by
providing HEP and DonorTrends with a list of prospects with their home
addresses. HEP then screens the list and sends it to DonorTrends, which
matches the names to the NOZA database; confirmed exact matches will
then be tracked monthly so that as new gifts appear in the NOZA system
for those people, the information will be reported in your daily Wealth
Tracker updates. The data collected includes the donors' names; the
types and ranges of their gifts as reported; the names, locations,
types, and websites of the recipient organizations; and the URLs of
sources of information.
Lawson notes that the data collected by DonorTrends provides
nonprofits with actionable intelligence that they can use to make savvy
donor decisions. "It's great to use NOZA data to find big gifts, but you
also need to look at the type of gifts," says Lawson. "You may find a
new interest area for your prospect, or a prospect who has made a
planned gift to another organization."
DonorTrends also screens files to find historical data on older
gifts, to complement the most current data from Wealth Tracker --
providing you with the complete spectrum of prospect information.
