Ten Ways to Increase Traffic to Your HEP EMATCH Donor Link Matching Gift Page

If you are looking to see your matching gifts grow year after year here are some handy tips from matching gift coordinators making it happen.

  1. Marketing, marketing, marketing. Create awareness internally as well as to your donors/alums. Use this P.S. in your annual fund appeals: “Will your employer match this gift? Find out at http://www.matchinggifts.com/your organization....”


  2. Provide reports on matching gifts internally, by department, of outstanding and paid matching claims. This generates interest and awareness of the value of matching gift programs. It also educates and makes the department aware of those donors and prospects that work for matching gift companies.


  3. Include wording in gift receipts: “Will your employer match gifts? Find out at http://www.matchinggifts.com/your organization....”


  4. Have newsletters, magazines from various departments include the same wording along with articles on matching gifts. Here is a great example from The Nature Conservancy.

  5. Volunteer pages on web site can remind folks that 10% of matching gift companies will match volunteer time.


  6. On your Matching Gifts search page in the text surrounding the search box be sure to include something similar to the following: “The impact of your gift to our organization may be doubled or possibly tripled! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.” Many donors are not aware of these last two facts.


  7. Create an inexpensive insert that explains matching gifts and gives contact information and the web address for the HEP EMatch Donor Link website page. The other side can just have a return address. Print this on card stock and you can insert this into any mailing, put out at events. “Do You Work for a Matchmaker?   9. Use Post-it Notes as reminders. With language/text including the actual web address. Change colors from time to time.
